Types Of Spiritual Bondage

In this article, we’ll go over the types of spiritual bondage. Continue reading.

When a person is under the influence of sin, He is captive spiritually. It happens when we hold onto our transgressions and allow evil to plant roots in our souls. The Holy Spirit can assist us in severing our links with God if we have a covenant relationship with Him. We can confide in God, give Him our problems, and put our faith in His promises.

The Two Types Of Spiritual Bondage

The Bondage of Legalism

In Galatians 1-4, Paul laid the foundation for legalism by demonstrating in great detail how the belief that upholding the law makes us righteous and acceptable to God leads to our destruction.

He claims that this belief has “estranged them from Christ,” that they have “fallen from grace,” and that they have “fallen from favor” in Chapter 5 by quoting Jesus’ words, “A little leaven leavens the whole lump.”

In Matthew 16 and Mark 8, after feeding 5,000 people with five loaves of bread and two fish, Jesus warns His followers to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees. Paul uses a comparable example to explain how to deal with immorality in the church in 1 Corinthians 5.

This “leaven” represents both types of bondage. You have legalism, the leaven of the Pharisees. Legalism in the church will eventually spread to the whole body.

Galatians 5:3 says, “I again proclaim to every man who has been circumcised, that he must keep the whole law.” Verse 26 discusses how the critical and judgmental mentality that emerges from legalism causes a church to “bite and devour one another,” “consume one another,” and “bite and devour one another.” Verse 15 explains how legalism places people in a position where they must always uphold the full law (v. 26).

One could argue that the second type of enslavement described in Galatians 5 has its roots in the leaven of legalism.

The Bondage of the Flesh

Because the Galatian church had been duped by false teachers who had made them rely on the Law as a means of salvation, they fell into the trap that all Christians fall into when they become legalistic. Christians who uphold the law have a critical mindset. Because of their doctrine, they must be that way! The people evaluate the performance of their other brothers and sisters since it determines whether or not Jesus Christ will accept them.

They benefit from one another’s criticism and baseless rumors that result from arrogant attitudes. They eventually grow resentful of those who succeed more than they do and begin to upset one another by speaking angrily to one another and preaching doom and gloom. Such a bad atmosphere is the perfect place for the things of the flesh to take over their minds and drive them further away from Christ.

Paul then moves on to a list of the deeds of the body, which includes everything from sexual and pagan sins to sins relating to rage and intoxication. It’s intriguing to me that he calls these “Works of the Flesh.” He uses the plural form of the word “works” to refer to the autonomous actions we carry out.

Compare this to a Christian who is filled with the Spirit. The leftovers of the works of the body have a potent leaven. Once one begins to “fall from grace” and contemplate sin in their heart, one loses control over how far one will go in sin. They already hold the opinion that their defense is strong. As a result, they commit more and more acts of the flesh and fall ever further from grace, which only helps to drive them deeper and more into illusion.

These are the types of spiritual bondage. Further, we will discuss five ways you can break spiritual bondage.

5 Ways To Break Spiritual Bondage By Being A Doer Of The Word

Be in the Word every day

The Bible contains all the resources we need to construct victorious lives. We should prepare to fight spiritual bond servants rather than corporeal opponents by donning all of God’s armor.

Live a life of repentance

Repentance is turning from your own way and going back to God’s way. Spiritual influences and temptations pull us every day. These demands and conditions may result in spiritual enslavement.

But when we humble ourselves once more and turn to the Lord, He is faithful to forgive and heal us. This can mean that we pray the confessional up to 100 times a day! With every detour, we genuinely go closer to our destiny. So keep returning to God!

Find forgiveness

The devil has established roots in your heart if it is bitter. If you are unable to forgive, your hatred, bitterness, resentment, and uncertainty will all grow greater. When one is reluctant to forgive, it might be challenging to recognize spiritual bondage. Through prayer, ask the Lord to reveal any unforgiveness you may be hiding in your heart.

Pray without ceasing

If you wish to be set free from spiritual slavery, you must develop the habit of praying. The enemy wants you to offer one last prayer before you go. He is aware that if you continue to pray, you will be set free. He also realizes that if you just pray once or twice before giving up, you are getting closer to being bound. Keep asking, looking, and knocking.

Hear and Do the Word

Hearing the Word of God is one thing, but putting it into practice and beginning the process of releasing oneself from spiritual restraints is quite another. Giving up is a step in the doing process. We gain a new perspective and a relationship with God when we repent.

Refusing to aid the enemy is a public declaration that you will no longer be bound by sin or live in the past.

The Ending Note

The enemy employs spiritual bondage to prevent us from thriving or gaining access to our spiritual inheritance in Christ. We end up harboring negative attitudes and behaviors in our souls when the devil takes control of our lives.

By routinely reading the Bible and praying often, we can escape spiritual slavery. God gives us the weapons we need to win this tough battle so that we can obey His Word, accomplish our mission, and enjoy the rewards.
